REINFORCED CONCRETE MOTOR SHIP OF 1,000 TONS DEADWEIGHT.
What is described as the first concrete motor ship of 1,000 tons
d.w. carrying capacity was launched on May 8 last at Jernbetonskibsbyggeriet's Dockyard,
Greaaker, near Fredrikstad, Norway. The builders describe her as the first concrete ship in the world classed for oversea
trade, besides being the largest boat of reinforced concrete built in Europe to the present
day. She is classed " I. A. I. BetonIægter Experimental for carrying coal and timber" in the register of the Norwegian Bureau Veritas. The principal dimensions are as follows :

The hull is subdivided by four watertight bulkheads. There are two cargo
holds, fitted with large hatches, 26 ft. long by 13 ft. wide, as shown on the deck plan
below. The vessel is of the twin-screw type, being propelled by two Bolinder motors each of 160
h.p., these being situated in the after part of the vessel.
Accommodation is provided for the
officers in the poop and for the crew in the
forecastle.
