Service history: Within weeks of the outbreak of World War I, she was damaged in the first Battle of Heligoland Bight on 28 August 1914. Following the German defeat in World War I, Strassburg was ceded to Italy as a war prize. Strassburg served in the Regia Marina as Taranto until she was sunk by air attack in 1944.
