Tugs of Uddevalla Harbour

One of the first known tugboat in Uddevalla was the steam tug TYR, contracted 1896 at Lundby M.V., Goteborg by Johan A. Petersson, A. Coster and Others at Uddevalla Transport & Bogserings AB, Uddevalla. TYR was delivered in November 1896. 1923 the Uddevalla City Harbour Council buy a steam tug HERTA which was renamed to META. Later Uddevalla purchased the steam tug DRAG and 1943 the steam tug HAKE.
1954 when Rederi AB Tyr (Thorden Line) purchased all the tugs from Uddevalla Harbour Council they ordered a new and bigger motor tug at Falkenbergs Varv which was given the name TYR (2). At the same time the Thorden Line ordered two small motor tugs at Karlskrona Varvet which was given the name TIM and TOM. The two old tugs META and DRAG was at the same time renamed to TIP and TOP. 1955 Rederi AB Tyr purchased the old steam tug ISBRYTAREN III from Goteborg and she was renamed to TUG. 1958 there was a great need for a bigger and stronger tug by the shipyard in Uddevalla and they constructed a tug which was given the building number 105 at the yard, but she was build at Asiverken, Amal and was delivered to the shipyard 1958 named TOR.
TYR (2) was sold 1959 to a company in Lisboa and delivered to Beira in Mozambique. The same year Rederi AB Tyr was taken delivery of a new motor tug named TYR (3), build at Asiverken, Amal, Sweden which the year after delivered the motor tug TED to the same company.
1969 the tug TYR, TED, TIM and TOM was purchased by the Uddevalla Harbour Council and registered in a new company, AB Bohus Tug Ltd., Uddevalla. This new company also purchased the motor tugs BOHUS, DYNAN, BONDEN, GAVEN and TIWAS to be used at the new build refinery at Brofjorden (north of Lysekil). BOHUS, DYNAN, BONDEN and TIWAS was later sold to Roda Bolaget in Goteborg.
